Artist's statement
All pieces are hand-built in either earthenware or stoneware. Inspiration is drawn from many sources, ranging from traditional African to contemporary design. I am drawn to pattern of all sorts and have a love for fabrics and fabric designs. I am inspired by needlecrafts, such as appliqué, embroidery and quilting and this influences much of my work. Traditional needlecrafts, whether, African, Eastern or Western, all reflect a sense of the time, patience and dedication to detail that it takes to create something beautiful. This art form, like that of ceramics, is often not recognised for this.
