Artist's statement My richly mixed media textured paintings reveal a deep sense of place instilled during the early years spent in South Africa. Born in Vanrhynsdorp in the heart of Namaqualand surrounded by the vast and varied landscapes. My imagery comes directly from memory, ideas of place to which I still have a strong emotional bond. I work very quickly moving the paint around the whole canvas with various mark making objects, applying a variety of tools helping to achieve a depth of painting and my canvases almost become mementoes of landscapes firmly embedded in my psyche. 'The desert landscape, Karoo by Yvonne Spektor, is very powerful; I'm quite envious of the beautiful paint, and if I see anything that i'm actually envious of, then that's a good day' Gus Cummins R.A. (Royal Academy Illustrated 2002) 'The subject matter of this work Town Ships is irrelevant - what matters is that this painting works from all aspects' Sonia Lawson RA talking about Yvonne Spektor's painting technique.
