Artist's statement
My richly mixed media textured paintings reveal a deep sense of place instilled during the early years spent in South Africa. Born in Vanrhynsdorp in the heart of Namaqualand surrounded by the vast and varied landscapes. My imagery comes directly from memory, ideas of place to which I still have a strong emotional bond. I work very quickly moving the paint around the whole canvas with various mark making objects, applying a variety of tools helping to achieve a depth of painting and my canvases almost become mementoes of landscapes firmly embedded in my psyche. Biography
Born Vanrhynsdorp 21-10-47
Studied Fine Art at various institutions, both in South Africa and England, completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Hertfordshire London England
First solo exhibition at Scholar Fine art Bruton St. W.1 London Dec. 2001 Exhibited with great success at the 234th Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2002 and was awarded the Dupree Family Award for best Woman Artist and nominated for the prestigious £25,000 Charles Wollaston Prize along side world renowned artists such as Gillian Ayers, Frank Stella, Basil Beattie, Nassimiliano Fuksas, Nigel Hall and the winner was Allen Charlston.
