Influences
Medieval Art and decoration.
There is no symbolism in my work, simply a love for decorating the 2 dimensional surface.
The wall hangings evolved from my interest in Medieval armour and chain mail which at first I interpreted as 3 dimensional sculptures and eventually in 2 dimensional decorative wall hangings. These hangings are made up of small stoneware squares of different coloured clays and decorated with glaze, under-glaze colours, glass and gold lustre. All the squares are fired only once to 1260ºC. A second firing is necessary for the gold lustre at Cone 017.
