WILMA CRUISE Horse and Rider Sold

Wilma Cruise has had twelve one-person shows. She has curated a number of exhibitions including Earthworks: Claybodies (2003 - 2004)(Pretoria Art Museum; The Standard Bank Gallery and Sasol University of Stellenbosch Museum). Her thirteenth solo exhibition is Cocks Asses & which will open on 7 November 2007 at the prestigious University of Johannesburg Art Gallery, in a space designed by the acclaimed architect, Jeremy Rose.

Cruise has won awards including Architect's Project Award in 2000 for the National Monument to the women of South Africa, Wathint' Abafazi Wathint' Imbokodo: Strike The Woman Strike The Rock (2000) (Union Buildings, Pretoria); the quarterly Vita Award in 1993 for Nicholas - October 1990 and Lorenzo il Magnifico Award at the Biennale Internazionale Dell'arte Contemporanea, Florence, 2001. She has successfully completed a number of commissions: including The Right to Life (The Constitutional Court); May Sheep Safely Graze: the Return of the Bultfontein Sheep (2005) (Oliewenhuis Museum, Bloemfontein) and Ancestor, Department of Science and Technology, Pretoria.

Since 2005 she has been collaborating with David Krut Art Resources in producing a series of intaglio prints. Recently she has teamed up with eye2i in pursuing her longstanding interest in the digital print making process.

Her work is represented in the South African National Gallery, the Corobrik Collection, UNISA, the Pretoria Art Museum, Durban Art Museum, the University of South Africa, MTN, Standard Bank, the Billiton collection and the Constitutional Court.
